The fish hook is one of the most commonly used symbols in Maori Carving. It is a talisman for prosperity and strength. It also reflects connection to water and it is often given when someone is travelling or journeying and it is mark of friendship and respect.
This design is carved from a beautiful piece of Woolly mammoth ivory and it has a beautiful feel and colour to it. I inset a piece of Pāua or abalone shell that adds a stunning wee highlight to it!
All the designs include an adjustable waxed polyester cord along with cards that explain the meaning of the design and the background of the material. She measures 44mm by 30mm.
