The fish hook is one of the most commonly used symbols in Maori Carving. It is a talisman for prosperity and strength. It also reflects connection to water and it is often given when someone is travelling or journeying and is often given as a mark of friendship and respect.
This design is carved from beef bone and the carved element reflects steps and strengthens the journey aspect. All the designs included an adjustable waxed polyester cord along with cards that explain the meaning of the design and the background of the material. She measures 63mm by 26mm.
