The fish hook is one of the most commonly used symbols in Maori Carving. It is a talisman for prosperity and strength. It also reflects connection to water and it is often given when someone is travelling or journeying and is often given as a mark of friendship and respect.
This larger design has some mass to it and is carved from a Red deer coronet that is collected from a deer farm near Raglan. The design has very subtle colouring and speckles along with great texture running along the bottom edge.
All the designs included an adjustable waxed polyester cord along with cards that explain the meaning of the design and the background of the material. She measures 75mm by 60mm.
