Adze form: Walrus Ivory

I have had this old old piece of Walrus ivory for a number of years. I have sketched multiple designs to fit onto the material but it would have meant that I would have lost of the makings from the Yupik worker who was creating a tool from this tusk. These worked pieces typically predated European contact and the introduction metal tools. I LOVE the feel and texture of this material and that the design mirrors a Toki or adze design. In Aotearoa this form represented strength and prosperity and was typically carved from Pounamu or Green stone. I have minimally worked the piece to retain the amazing old tool patterns.
